Self Portraits
I thought is was a really cute idea. On the first day of school have the kids draw a picture of themselves. Do not have them put their names on the front of the pictures. Once they give you the picture you can number the pictures and hang them up. Later in the week the kids can try and guess what picture goes with what student.

Good ice breaker activity. I have my students create a family glyph with their parents at the start of the year. This glyph provides the class with information about the student and their family. I let the students share with the class if they want.
